Summer Hunger Campaign
For many of us summer brings wonderful times shared with family and friends, holiday barbecues and delicious, un-rushed meals. Sadly that is not the case for everyone in Westchester – especially the 1 in 5 people who are at risk for food insecurity. For working families with children out of school, the household budget that was already stretched-thin just can't cover the additional expenses of extra meals each day. 25,000 children in Westchester County are eligible to receive food assistance at school, and are at risk of going hungry over summer break.
What happens to those 25,000 children when school lets out for the summer?
Tour our beautiful garden while learning the guiding principles of our food growing program with the Food Bank’s very own Food Growing Expert, Doug DeCandia. Learn techniques for your own garden and plant your very own watermelon to take home!
Here at the Food Bank, we are entering our 6th growing season, having produced an average of 50,000 pounds so far at our five main garden sites throughout the County! All the food we grow is distributed to the Food Bank's partner agencies - mostly via our Mobile Food Pantry.
