Because of our commitment to nutrition, the Food Bank for Westchester purchases fresh foods from local New York State farmers and brokers for distribution to hungry Westchester residents. Every week volunteers pack bags of produce; each bag contains four different vegetables and two different fruits. This is enough fresh food to provide a family of four with produce for 2-3 days.
These produce bags are delivered to member agencies “just in time" for distribution to hungry people in the community. Each bag also contains a recipe and food-handling flier, in English and Spanish, that gives suggestions on how to store and use the produce.
